Arrow Will End With Season 8, Star Stephen Amell Thanks Fans

Arrow season 8 will be the end of the road for The CW show that began the network’s superhero craze. It was announced today that next fall the show will end its run with a limited season consisting of only ten episodes.

The news came via a statement from the show’s executive producers, Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Beth Schwartz.

“This was a difficult decision to come to, but like every hard decision we’ve made for the past seven years, it was with the best interests of Arrow in mind,” began the statement.

It was on to talk about how proud the producers are that so many shows have come from the flagship superhero show. The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl were all spin-offs of Arrow.

“We’re excited about crafting a conclusion that honors the show, its characters, and its legacy and are grateful to all the writers, producers, actors, and more importantly the incredible crew that has sustained us and the show for over seven years,” wrapped up the heartfelt message.

Arrow star Stephen Amell used social media to thank fans for all the support over the past eight years. He also expressed how grateful he was to the show but did note that he could not be a “vigilante” forever.

The actor’s Tweet sums up weeks of speculation that Amell was ready to hang up his green suit and move on from the character of Oliver Queen when his contract ended at the end of the current season. Until his social media post, he had never outright said he was leaving, but the 37-year-old had hinted that was the direction his life was headed.

Playing Oliver Queen has been the greatest professional experience of my life… but you can’t be a vigilante forever.

Arrow will return for a final run of 10 episodes this Fall.

There’s so much to say… for now I just want to say thank you.

Despite rumors, the powers that be were thinking of bringing in another actor to play the Arrow and take the show in a new direction; it appears Arrow will come to an end. Honestly, it is the best decision. Keeping the show alive without Oliver Queen, could damage the legacy the series has created. It never works well when a successful show loses the main star then changes directions.

Arrow fans will have to say good-bye next fall after season 8. The CW renewed the show back in January, but the producers are pulling the plug. Do you think ending the show hit superhero show is the right move or should it have continued without Amell?
