Mexican fans continue to engage in acts of violence, with the latest incident taking place in Tijuana ahead of the match between Xolos and Leon on Matchday 16 of the Clausura 2023.
In videos circulating on social media, a fierce brawl between fans of both Liga MX teams can be seen in the vicinity of the Estadio Caliente. According to initial reports, the brawl left five people injured, including one seriously, although his life is not in danger.
One of the most horrible moments saw one person kicked directly in the face and ended up unconscious on the ground, while there were also exchanges of fists among others. It is important to remember that from Matchday 16 onwards, fans will have to go to the stadiums with Fan ID, in order to have more control and try to avoid acts of violence in Liga MX.
Liga MX condemns fight between Xolos vs Leon fans
After the brawl in the vicinity of the Estadio Caliente was reported, Liga MX issued a statement to condemn what happened at the border.
"Prior to the start of the Matchday 16 match between Tijuana and Leon, there was a violent act between fans at one of the entrances to the Caliente stadium, elements of public and private security intervened to stop the actions.
"Liga MX condemns what happened and asks the authorities to investigate the incident in order to find those responsible".
It concluded by saying that "football should be a spectacle and a space where family and inclusive environments prevail".
It is not the first time that violence has been present in Mexican football, as another horrific scene played out more than a year ago in Queretaro between fans of Gallos Blancos and Atlas.
In addition, yesterday the Kraken Stadium also saw a fight between fans of Mazatlan FC and Rayados de Monterrey
